What is LASIK?
  • LASIK (Laser In-situ Keratomileusis) is the latest treatment used to help those with near- sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. By changing the curvature of the central cornea, it provides a permanent correction of your vision.
  • LASIK procedure is performed under a high magnification operation microscope using local anaesthetic drops to anaesthetize the eye. During the procedure, a thin cap of corneal is lifted and applied with the Excimer Laser. The cap is repositioned after the laser treatment.
  • The Excimer Laser machine is accurate with absence of damage to adjacent tissues. The treated area heals automatically within a short period of time without forming any scars.
  • The whole procedure is computerized and automated, increasing the safety of the treatment.
Factors affecting the treatment outcomes of LASIK
Our Centre provides:
  • LASIK surgery and follow-up sessions to be taken within twelve months after the operation.
  • A full eye examination will be conducted by our doctor prior to surgery to determine suitability for LASIK.

Advanced Technology
Hong Kong Eye Practice Introduces New Technology for Vision Correction

Hong Kong’s first Wavelight® EX500 Excimer Laser

Hong Kong Eye Practice introduces a new technology - Excimer Laser technology with WL EX500 system - for LASIK treatments. With one of the world’s fastest ablation times, it treats myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism in just 1.4 seconds per diopter. Treating 6 diopers of myopia only takes around 10 seconds.

Multi-dimensional eye tracker offers efficient and accurate LASIK treatment

Multi-dimensional eye tracker accurately tracks pupil 1,050 times per second in 360 degrees, reducing the latency of movement tracking to just 2 milliseconds and dynamically tracks various pupil sizes, even as small as 1.5mm. The system has a built-in active pupil centroid shift correction function which ensures perfect alignment with the pupil centre even when the eye moves involuntarily. Together with its unique NeuroTrack function which compensates and suppresses cyclotorsion, we provide treatments that are more stable and reliable.

FDA Approved

Our laser system is fully approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (regulatory body responsible for monitoring the safety of medical products) to be safe.

Unique proprietary Radio Frequency (RF) Laser technology for more stable and accurate results

Unique proprietary Radio Frequency (RF) Laser technology only allows 1 pulse in 5 to overlap, resulting in wider and more uniform treated areas. Laser spot distribution areas are more optimized, which minimizes the potential for nighttime glare and halos, leading to even more permanent and precise treatments.

Built-in flexibility for the expansion of refractive treatment capabilities

The system has a wide range of FDA approved refractive treatment capabilities, ranging from 6 diopter of hyperopia/astigmatism to 14 diopter of myopia.

Advanced Integrated Head-up Display

The new WL EX500 Excimer Laser is equipped with an integrated control and analysis monitor, displaying patient information, treatment duration, patient’s refraction, status of the treatment all on one panel. It eliminates the reliance on extra pachymetry devices, leading to ever safer treatments.

Benefits of WL EX500

  • Shorten surgery time
  • More reliable treatment results
  • Reduce potential for :
    • Stromal dehydration of cornea
    • Flap shrinkage
    • Sensitivity to eye movement
    • Patient fixation fatigue
    • Nighttime glares

Questions about LASIK
Generally you have to be over 18 years old with stable prescription for 1 year prior to the procedure. You need to stop wearing your contact lenses 1 week (2 weeks for hard lenses) before the eye examination.
A convenient location so that it is easy for you to go for the examination and the follow up consultations. Check out what type of LASIK machines the centre is using. Try to attend any LASIK seminar the centre provides and discuss with your doctor for any of your specific needs and expectations.
You will be given anesthetic eyedrops for the procedure so you won't feel any pain. As the effects of the eyedrops wear off, you will feel slight discomfort similar to the feeling after swimming.
Latest figures show that over 90% of people achieve 20/20 vision and nearly 100% achieve 20/40 vision, which is accepted by most countries for driving without glasses. The results vary among individuals. It is important to discuss with your doctor to get realistic expectations.
LASIK has been performed on more than two million people in the last ten years and is considered to be a very safe surgery. The latest technology is also helping to reduce complications such as halo to a minimum. Good aftercare such as using eyedrops regularly and not rubbing the eyes is very important in enhancing the results.
Within a few hours most people can see the difference and for some people they enjoy clear vision when they wake up the next morning.
If your work is relatively light, you can go back the second day. Some people might wait for another day depending on the type of work.
